Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday requested Members of Parliament to vote by their inner conscience for the INDIA bloc’s Vice Presidential candidate Sudershan Reddy.
He made a heartfelt appeal to all Telugu political leaders and citizens to rise above party lines and support a nominee who, he said, stands for integrity, public service, and Telugu pride.
Addressing the media at his residence in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister accused the NDA of misusing constitutional institutions and undermining democratic values.
In stark contrast, he said, the INDIA alliance is committed to protecting the Constitution, drawing inspiration from the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
“This election is not just a political event; it is a moral test. On one side stands the NDA, which has ridiculed democratic processes. On the other hand is the INDIA bloc, upholding constitutional values. Justice Sudershan Reddy, our candidate, is a constitutional expert who embodies that commitment," Revanth stated.
The CM highlighted that Justice Reddy hails from a humble agricultural family in Telangana and has served the country with distinction as a judge and Lokayukta. Such a background, Revanth said, makes him deserving of unified support from all Telugu-speaking MPs.
“After PV Narasimha Rao, this is the first time a Telugu individual has the opportunity to occupy such a high constitutional position. Every Telugu MP—regardless of party affiliation—has a duty to support him," he said.
The Chief Minister made a direct appeal to TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao, YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Janasena President Pawan Kalyan, and leaders of the Communist parties, as well as BJP MPs from both Telugu states, urging them to put aside political rivalries and back Justice Reddy.
“This is a matter of Telugu self-respect and democratic responsibility," he asserted.
Revanth also recalled the political foresight of NT Rama Rao in 1991, when he supported PV Narasimha Rao in the Nandyal by-election by choosing not to field a candidate against him — a gesture that reflected Telugu unity and statesmanship.
Revanth Reddy said the INDIA alliance’s decision to nominate a son of Telangana has brought immense pride to the region. He reiterated the need for unity across party lines to uphold democratic values and ensure the election of a deserving Telugu leader to the office of Vice President of India.
