BJP leaders have alleged that the attack was orchestrated by TMC cadres, dubbing it “TMC’s Jungle Raj in Bengal."

BJP MP Attacked During Flood Relief Work in Bengal
In a shocking incident in North Bengal, BJP MP Khagen Murmu sustained injuries after being attacked while distributing relief materials to flood-affected communities. The stone-pelting attack occurred in Jalpaiguri’s Nagrakata area, as Murmu and BJP MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh were on the ground assisting victims of recent heavy rains, floods, and landslides.
BJP alleges TMC involvement
BJP leaders have alleged that the attack was orchestrated by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). “TMC’s Jungle Raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to help with relief and rescue efforts," BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya posted on X.
Malviya criticised the state government, saying, “While Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished."
Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, condemned the attacks, describing the situation as an intimidation tactic by the ruling party. “MP Khagen Murmu was brutally attacked and has been left with bloody injuries in Nagrakata today when he was accompanying BJP President Samik Bhattacharya to the flood-affected areas," he stated.
Adhikari further alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s focus on public events in Kolkata had left North Bengal vulnerable. He claimed that the TMC deployed supporters from the ‘Special Community’ to prevent BJP leaders from providing aid to flood victims. “Mamata Banerjee, you can’t intimidate BJP. Our MPs and MLAs were on the ground providing relief while her government failed to act," he added.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar called CM Banerjee a “failed" Chief Minister. His post on X reads, “Failed Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee, who, even after receiving news yesterday of the catastrophic devastation in North Bengal and the tragic loss of many lives, was seen celebrating on the Carnival stage at Red Road, has clearly shown how fearful she has become of the BJP West Bengal workers and leaders who have been tirelessly conducting rescue and relief operations on the ground since yesterday. The people of Bengal will never forget this cowardice and shamelessness. From yesterday until today, the people of Bengal will punish every one of your immoral and inhuman acts of brutality. Shame!"
Calling the attack planned and heinous, Raju Bista said, “These leaders are visiting the landslide hit areas in Dooars, and were on a humanitarian mission. Such heinous and planned attack on elected representatives of the people, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Elected representatives, regardless of their political affiliation, have the duty and the right to serve their constituents without fear of violence or intimidation. The actions of those responsible for this attack are a direct affront to the rule of law and the fundamental rights of every citizen. I request the Jalpaiguri District Administration, and WB Government to take strictest action against the perpetrators, all of whom have been caught on camera."
Despite the attack, BJP leaders have vowed to continue their relief operations in flood-hit areas. The heavy monsoon rains in North Bengal have caused widespread devastation, with landslides, flash floods, and property damage, displacing thousands of residents.
