A controversy erupted after a video of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh went viral, in which he was allegedly heard saying, “Poison your girl if she becomes a victim of ‘love jihad’ and refuses to return (re-convert)."
The lawmaker also found himself in a row for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed during a recent public meeting.
An official complaint was also filed against Singh at Shalibanda Police Station on Saturday after a video of the same started making the rounds on the internet.
According to a police official, the MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad has been booked under relevant sections of the BNS and IT Act against Singh.
The case was filed following complaints by several people who condemned the statements by the political leader.
Notably, this is not the first time Singh has made a remark that turned into controversy.
Earlier in 2024, Meta took down two Facebook groups and three Instagram accounts associated with Singh, according to a report by the India Hate Lab (IHL). The report highlighted that these platforms were being used to spread hate speech and inflammatory content across India.
The report also alleged that he had delivered 32 hate speeches across India, with at least 22 involving direct incitement to violence.
In August 2022, he was arrested for making inflammatory comments targeting a particular community. Following the arrest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had suspended him from the party. However, his suspension was revoked ahead of the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, reportedly after internal deliberations.
In 2020, Singh was reportedly banned from Meta’s platforms under its policy on “dangerous individuals and organisations".
