A group of Manipur BJP MLAs, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, are currently camping in New Delhi to press for the formation of a popular government in the state. Sources have told News18 that the legislators are scheduled to hold a decisive meeting on Tuesday, which is expected to shape their next political course.

One of the MLAs presently in Delhi told News18, “We need to have a popular government in Manipur. Both Meitei and Naga MLAs have come together. We will hold a crucial meeting on Tuesday and will brief the media afterward. We are here to find a solution."

Biren Singh, who left for Delhi on Saturday, had earlier stated that his primary purpose was to meet the party leadership and urge for the early restoration of an elected government in Manipur.

At present, nearly 30 BJP MLAs are in the national capital. While the first group departed on Saturday, another group — including Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, former minister Govindas Konthoujam, and MLAs Kongkham Robindro, Sapam Kunjakeshwor, Thounaojam Shyamkumar, and Karam Shyam — left on Sunday.

Significantly, this is the first time all BJP MLAs from the valley and Naga legislators have come together, signaling a rare show of unity within the party’s Manipur unit.

Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 2025, following months of political instability. Though efforts have been made since then to form a popular government, no consensus has yet been achieved.

The state has been reeling under ethnic strife since May 2023, with thousands of internally displaced people still residing in relief camps across both the valley and hill districts. However, officials say the situation on the ground is currently peaceful.

During his recent visit to Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth Rs 8,500 crore, underscoring the Centre’s focus on restoring normalcy and development.

With all BJP legislators of valley now united in Delhi, party insiders believe Tuesday’s meeting could pave the way for a breakthrough in forming a new popular government in the state.
