President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday said that Ukraine expects to join the European Union in 2027.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Zelenskyy discussed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union by 2027 with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker.
Both leaders discussed the energy situation in Ukraine after numerous Russian terrorist attacks.
After the telephonic conversation, the Ukrainian President gave details in a post on X: “During a conversation with Federal Chancellor of Austria Christian Stocker, we discussed the energy situation in Ukraine. Russia strikes energy infrastructure every day to leave Ukrainians without electricity and heat, and it is very important that partners respond to this. That is why we highly appreciate Austria’s decision last week to allocate funds to support our energy sector. Thank you! We also discussed other ways to support our energy system."
He shared that the Chancellor was also informed that the trilateral meetings of the Ukrainian, American, and Russian delegations, that took place in the UAE last week, primarily discussed military issues and security guarantees.
“Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is one of the key security guarantees not only for us, but also for all of Europe. After all, Europe’s collective strength is possible, in particular, thanks to Ukraine’s security, technological, and economic contributions. That is why we are speaking about a concrete date – 2027 – and we count on partners’ support for our position," Zelenskyy said.
The President also invited the Austrian Chancellor to Ukraine for in-person future dialogues.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian officials said that a total of six people were killed by the Russian strikes.
France 24 quoted regional officials saying that a Russian drone barrage killed two people, whose bodies were retrieved from rubble, and wounded nearly three dozen people in the southern city of Odesa.
Besides, a couple of age 45 and 48 were killed in Sloviansk in the eastern Donetsk region. In a separate drone attack in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia, a 58-year-old was killed at home. A 72-year-old was also killed in her home by Russian shelling in the southern Kherson region.
