A shooting at a secondary school and a nearby residence in the remote town of Tumbler Ridge in northeastern British Columbia left at least 10 people dead, including the suspected gunman, and more than 25 others injured, Canadian authorities said. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said several victims suffered critical injuries, with at least two people airlifted to hospital. Others are being treated at local medical facilities. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

Calling the incident “horrific," Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured, saying the country stood with the community in grief.

Kabul Kaaj Education Centre Bombing, Afghanistan (2022)

A suicide bomber struck a classroom at the Kaaj Education Centre in western Kabul on September 30, 2022, killing at least 53 students, mostly girls, and injuring dozens more.

Mpondwe School Massacre, Uganda (2023)

At least 43 people were killed when armed attackers stormed Lhubiriha Secondary School in western Uganda on June 16, 2023. Students were attacked in their dormitories during the night.

Virginia Tech Massacre, United States (2007)

A student carried out shootings at Virginia Tech University on April 16, 2007, killing 32 people and injuring 23. It remains the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in US history.

Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting, United States (2012)

On December 14, 2012, a gunman killed 27 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, including 20 children aged six and seven.

Robb Elementary School Shooting, United States (2022)

A gunman killed 21 people, including 19 children and two teachers, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022. Seventeen others were injured.

Columbine High School Massacre, United States (1999)

Two students carried out a coordinated shooting and bombing at Columbine High School in Colorado on April 20, 1999, killing 13 people.

Santa Fe High School Shooting, United States (2018)

A student opened fire at Santa Fe High School in Texas on May 18, 2018, killing 10 people and injuring at least 13 others before being taken into custody.
