Samsung's new Fan Edition model with the S25 badge features a premium design style and other basic niceties but is that enough?

Samsung’s use of the Fan Edition model has intrigued people over the years, and as the name suggests, the company brings a product with the demands of the consumer. The new Galaxy S25 FE model looks to build on this premise and give you a more polished FE version than previous years.

Samsung has definitely taken design in its strides and we saw hints of that approach with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 models earlier this year. Now, with the Galaxy S25 FE model you get most of the flagship traits but packed into a package which sits below the premium range.

Priced at Rs 59,999 the new Galaxy S25 FE sees quite a few changes but is that enough to make it compete with others in the segment? We will give you the answer.

The FE Premium Effect

The Galaxy S25 FE version has trimmed down drastically with its 7.4mm thickness (down from 8mm on the S24 FE) and now weighing 190 grams (S24 was 213 grams). These changes make it pleasant to hold the device in the hand and give you a comfortable grip with its flat aluminium frame. It gets IP68 rating like the regular S25 models which is one more thing to tick in the check box.

The actual size of the phone remains the same but shedding all this weight along with the premium build finally makes you believe the S25 FE is part of the premium clan.

The frosted glass finish at the back has its own charm, especially in the blue colour variant that we got to test. The triple camera setup has been synonymous across the last few S-series lineup and the S25 FE continues that trend.

The FE Display Charm

The new Galaxy S25 FE has the same 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display but this variant has an LTPO panel which means the 120Hz refresh rate adapts to what you are doing on the screen. This is the bare minimum for a 60K phone these days so it is good to have it available.

The display is bright with the 1900 nits peak brightness level, and it supports HDR10+ which means the streaming apps will support content in high quality. The panel offers punchy colours like most AMOLED displays, so there is very little to complain on that front.

The Exynos Push

Samsung has opted for the Exynos 2400 version chipset to power the S25 FE which is more in line with true flagship performance. Having it paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage means you get reliable results from the device that can handle the daily tasks easily. However, we would have liked a 12GB RAM option, which is available from other brands.

The benchmark scores show a marginal bump in performance with the regular Exynos 2400 over the 2400e version. However, we did notice the phone heats up in normal usage while trying to play games or sometimes using the camera.

We’re not in the peak of Delhi Summer anymore so these instances did leave us slightly concerned but should be fixable with an update and hopefully Samsung has that on its to-do list. The overall performance is good, but this is not a power-hungry device which goes up directly against the 8 Elite phones but a slightly lower range.

More Galaxy AI Mules

Samsung has upped its software game big time which is why the Android 16-based One UI 8 has been available in the market before Google launched its new Pixel 10 series this year. The new One UI version is a carry forward from the One UI 7 update, at least in terms of the UI but with Android 16 Material Expressive 3 interface changes, you see those making a crisp impression.

And like most Samsung phones these days, you get Galaxy AI and Gemini working on tap (more like a long-press), that we have talked about with other devices and there is nothing new to write about. Samsung will offer 7 years of OS upgrades and security updates for the S25 FE which takes the device up to Android 23 version that will be rolling out in 2031.

Dependable Shooters On Board

Samsung has kept the same triple rear camera system that has a 50MP wide primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP telephoto lens with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The main camera captures clear images but the colours look washed out which is quite strange for a Samsung device.

Usually we see high contrast natured photos with the greens and blues going overboard. The telephoto helps you take the close ups to some extent but its quality can use some improvement via update. Even the ultrawide has seen the colours go mixed but the details are mostly intact. The low light side of the main sensor delivers effective results and you make good use of the bigger sensor with OIS to capture the details without adding noise.

The FE Battery Factor

The Galaxy S25 FE is thinner but still manages to pack a bigger 4,900mAh battery than its predecessor. We’ve seen this with Samsung’s Z Fold 7 model as well this year and this is being done without using the silicon carbon grade tech. The charging speed has also been bumped up to 45W from 25W with the standard charger which is not in the box.

For some reason, the S25 FE did not go through on the PCMark battery test, even after multiple attempts but our daily usage for more than a week suggests this battery is good for a day’s job at best, and somewhere the Exynos 2400 seems to be taking the heat out of the unit.

Thermal efficiency has a direct impact on the battery life, and getting around 5 hours of screen-on-time is not ideal these days. It is about time that Samsung adopts the new battery solutions available to increase its endurance.
