So, it is confirmed. Google is ready to unleash Android into the PC segment and it is doing that with Qualcomm for the hardware support. Both the companies confirmed the news during the Snapdragon Summit 2025 this week, which also gives us a teaser into the new ChromeOS + Android combined into one holistic platform for personal computing devices.

We have seen Google make laptops powered by ChromeOS that have done well in patches but are far behind the curve with Windows, macOS and even Linux ahead in the pack.

Making Android work in line with ChromeOS could give us the best of both mobile and PC worlds. Google has also said the Android for PC version is coming next year, which could be at the Google I/O 2026 edition in May.

Android Is Coming For PCs: What To Expect?

Without really giving details, the Qualcomm chief said, “he is excited about Android for PC," at the event. Going by the experience of Android and ChromeOS, we expect Google to design a platform that uses the interface side of Android and pairs it with the multi-tasking nature of ChromeOS and translate that into a cohesive operating system for PCs.

It is likely to sit somewhere between Windows and macOS in this regard and closely have links to Linux, since Android kernel is built on that premise.

Android’s journey on tablets has been underwhelming and it has been left to the partners to use the best available hardware to get the most out of the platform. Android running on PCs needs to be a lot more effective, dynamic and still capable of handling tasks without going overboard.

Threat For Windows?

More than Mac, the new Android for PC version will be looking to compete with Windows which is easier said than done. Microsoft has a strong monopoly in this space, even though Apple will have a different take on that.

Android for PC needs to deliver on the computing experience something that has worked to great effect on smartphones, and even TVs, less so on tablets. Bringing Android to PCs will complete Google’s ecosystem play, since the platform is already available on phones, TVs, watches, smart homes and even cars.
