iPhone 17 Pro gets new colours, a new looking camera island at the back and some other changes that might not please buyers.

The new iPhone 17 Pro design changes are not seeing results.

The new iPhone 17 Pro design changes are not seeing results.

iPhone 17 Pro comes in new colours, gets new 48MP cameras and a new layout design as well. But the biggest change with the premium 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max is the use of aluminium casing instead of titanium which has given birth to the ‘scratchgate’ issue for many owners.

It all started when Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared a clip on X talking about the deep blue iPhone 17 pro being scratch prone, so much that other iPhone 17 Pro buyers quickly realised the nature of the beast that Apple has created with a major design change this year.

The iPhone 17 Pro Scratchgate Problem: What’s Causing It?

When the iPhone 17 Pro leaks came out, many people were worried about Apple’s use of aluminium casing to make the model. This material has a history of being less durable than titanium which has now been handed over to the iPhone Air version.

The scratches people are seeing on their iPhone 17 Pros are caused by the keys and coins sitting in the pocket along with their phone, or even their handbags for women.

When these scratches leave their impact on the iPhone 17 Pro, you notice the silver coloured aluminium material over which the colour coating is applied. And for a phone that costs well over Rs 1.3 lakh, that’s not ideal, especially just weeks after its launch in the market. Even the heavy-duty JerryRigEverything scratch tests showed its fragility which tells you the use of new material has not gone according to plan.

iPhone 17 Pro Scratchgate Issue: How To Avoid It?

Well, the only way to avoid scratches on the iPhone 17 Pro is to use a case, which is always going to be a necessity for the iPhones with their glass back panel. Apple has a wide range of cases, including the MagSafe ones you can strap on. There are other third-party Spigen and other cases for better durability and protection.

Yes, it does stop you from getting the full value of the new colours and design but definitely not at the cost of being a victim of the dreaded scratchgate.
