US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he had a “very productive" telephone conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, describing the talks as positive for both countries and focused on key bilateral issues.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump said the discussion centred on the US–Mexico border, efforts to stop drug trafficking, and trade. He added that the two leaders would speak again soon and were working towards setting up meetings in their respective countries.
“It went extremely well for both Countries," Trump wrote, praising Sheinbaum as a “wonderful and highly intelligent leader" and saying Mexico “should be very happy about that."

The message signals a cordial tone in early engagement between Washington and Mexico City, particularly on sensitive issues such as border security and narcotics smuggling, which have long been sources of tension between the two neighbours.
Trump’s remarks also suggest plans for deeper diplomatic engagement in the coming weeks, with in-person meetings now being discussed as both sides look to advance cooperation on security and economic ties.
