Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. Leaders from across the political spectrum, including Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton, have shared messages of support, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
Biden’s office shared that the cancer has a Gleason score of 9.
Former President Joe Biden’s office announced Sunday that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. The diagnosis sparked an outpouring of support and prayers from leaders across the spectrum, as Biden begins treatment for the disease.
Biden’s office shared that the cancer has a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) and has spread to his bones. The statement also said the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which means it can be treated effectively.
US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, "Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."
Former Vice President Kamala Harris posted on X, "Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "Jeanette and I are united in prayer for the Biden Family during this difficult time."
Democratic 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton wrote, "I’m thinking of the Bidens as they take on cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to spare other families from. Wishing you a speedy, full recovery."
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise posted, "Praying for former President Joe Biden as he battles prostate cancer."
Democratic Senator John Fetterman called Biden "a fighter" who would "prevail."
Republican Senator Thom Tillis and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene also expressed support. Greene said on X, "I’m sorry to see this news. Cancer is truly awful. My Dad passed away in 2021 with cancer. Prays for Joe Biden and his family." Tillis said he was praying for Biden’s full recovery.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said, "A man of dignity, strength, and compassion like his deserves to live a long and beautiful life. Sending strength, healing and prayers his way."
Meghan McCain, whose father died from cancer, described the illness as "the absolute worst." She wrote, "It is hell. It is incredibly difficult for any family, anywhere that has to deal with it. Wishing nothing but healing, prayers, light and strength to President Biden and his family. I don't believe times like these are appropriate for politics."
Many other lawmakers, including Rep. Pat Ryan, Rep. Shontel Brown, Sen. James Lankford, Sen. Susan Collins, and Sen. Tim Kaine, have sent their best wishes.
However, former President Barack Obama and Vice President JD Vance have not commented publicly.
