The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran has opened a narrow window for diplomacy, but Washington is already pressing its allies to move fast on the next phase -- securing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy routes. Donald Trump’s administration has made it clear that declarations of support are no longer enough. With global oil flows disrupted and prices under pressure, Washington now wants concrete action from European allies, setting the stage for another round of tensions within Nato.

According to Bloomberg News, the United States has asked European partners to present detailed plans within days on how they intend to help secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz once fighting stops. The request was raised during high-level discussions at the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department, including Trump’s meeting with Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
