A skier was seriously injured after approaching a snow leopard for a selfie near Koktokay Township in China’s Xinjiang region on January 23.
The woman was heading back to her hotel from the Koktokay Ski Resort when she spotted the animal in a wooded area. She went closer with her phone to take a photograph and managed to click a selfie. Seconds later, the leopard lunged at her and mauled her face.
As per reports, the animal bit down on her skull, but her thick ski helmet prevented fatal injuries.
Harrowing footage showed the leopard sitting calmly beside the injured woman. A ski instructor waved his poles and shouted, while others threw snow to scare the animal away. Bystanders then pulled her to safety and rushed her to hospital.

Doctors at Fuyun County People’s Hospital said her condition is stable with facial wounds.
Officials said snow leopard activity had been detected in the area a day earlier, and warnings had been issued asking tourists not to approach or photograph the animals. Authorities later captured the leopard linked to the attack and nearby sheep killings.
