Dmitry Nuyanzin, a Russian fitness coach and influencer, died in his sleep after undertaking an eating challenge, targeting to gain at least 25 kg. The 30-year-old had been consuming large quantities of junk food for several weeks as part of what he described as a “marathon" experiment.

His aim was to gain at least 25 kg and later lose it all to demonstrate a dramatic transformation for his weight-loss programme. According to People, he consumed more than 10,000 calories a day during the challenge.

He told his friends that he was not feeling well only a day before his death and also cancelled his training sessions. He was planning to see a doctor, but his heart reportedly failed while he was asleep.

In his last Instagram post on November 18, Nuyanzin shared a video of himself eating a pack of crisps and revealed that his weight had climbed to 105 kg — an increase of at least 13 kg in one month. Lunch typically included nearly two pounds of dumplings covered in mayonnaise, and dinner was often a burger with two small pizzas. He also snacked on crisps throughout the day.

He explained that breakfast usually consisted of pastries and half a cake. (Lunch typically included nearly two pounds of dumplings covered in mayonnaise, and dinner was often a burger with two small pizzas.

News of his death led to shock and sadness among followers, many of whom described his story as a warning.

“It is better to prove such theories not in practice. Rest in peace," one user wrote. Another said, “It’s true. If you’re not used to junky fries fast food, it will indeed make you sick!" Others called his death “shocking" and offered condolences. “An excellent coach and a wonderful mentor, and just a good person," wrote one follower.

Nuyanzin had a strong background in fitness. He graduated from the Orenburg Olympic Reserve School and the Fitness University in St Petersburg. For nearly ten years, he had worked as a personal trainer for several elite athletes in Russia.

While the exact cause of his death is yet to be ascertained, early reports indicate that the extreme diet placed severe strain on his heart.
