US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday that the United States does not plan to take on a day-to-day governing role in Venezuela, seeking to clarify remarks made earlier by President Donald Trump following the removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
Speaking on television talk shows, Rubio said Washington’s involvement would largely be limited to enforcing an existing “oil quarantine" on Venezuela. His comments appeared aimed at easing concerns that the US action could turn into a long-term foreign intervention or an attempt at nation-building.
