Google and Apple have somehow allowed more than a dozen of such AI-powered apps that offer the feature for free.

More than a dozen of apps have flouted the app store policies.
Google and Apple app stores are given a thorough check but it seems even with all the systems in place, both the tech giants have somehow allowed over a dozen of nudify apps on their platform. Grok is the first name that comes to our mind on this subject, especially after its recent instances of generating explicit images of real people with prompts from strangers.
And now finding similar apps that are free on the popular and official app stores raises further concerns about these companies actually checking for their purpose and possible violation of rules.
Nudify Apps Strike Again
More than 50 and 45 apps on the Play Store and App Store have been identified in a report by Tech Transparency Project (TTP). These AI-powered apps are said to be able to generate images completely or partially undressed from the photos people upload to the apps. The worrying part is that some of these apps have already clocked a total of 700 million downloads across the globe and the developers of these apps have minted millions from the users installing and using the AI tools.
The research body was puzzled that just by typing select words in search they were able to find these apps and some even appeared at the top of the search results on Play Store and App Store.
TTP has already shared the list of these apps with both Google and Apple, and as quoted by CNBC, both these companies claim to have removed or suspended the developer of these apps for violating their policies.
Meanwhile, Google has rolled out its AI-powered editing in the Photos app for more users this week. Google’s new AI feature had launched with the Pixel 10 models for users in the US earlier and they could simply ask Photos to edit the images for you.
To make this feature work the Photos app has got a design overhaul, most likely with the Android 16 version, which now has a Gemini bar below the picture. The new tool lets you edit using text or voice prompts.
