Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim strongly condemned the Red Fort blast in Delhi, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extending solidarity with India as investigations point to possible terror links. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar Ibrahim said he was “deeply saddened" by the explosion that killed eight people and injured 20 others near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening, which has claimed several lives and injured many others. My heartfelt condolences go to the victims’ families and to the people of India as they mourn this senseless tragedy," he wrote.

“If confirmed to be an act of terror, it deserves the strongest condemnation. There can be no justification for violence that targets innocent lives and sows fear among ordinary people," he added.

The Malaysian PM also praised those responding to the crisis, adding, “I also pay tribute to the first responders and to the authorities working to determine the cause of the blast and to bring those responsible to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected."

Ibrahim Anwar’s remarks come as India continues to investigate the explosion, which occurred around 6:52 pm when a Hyundai i20 car with a Haryana registration number suddenly blew up while idling in traffic near Lal Qila Metro Station Gate No. 1. The powerful blast damaged surrounding vehicles and sent pedestrians fleeing.

Among the nine killed were traders, daily commuters and workers returning home after their shifts. More than 20 people sustained injuries, several of them critical. Disturbing visuals from the scene showed mangled vehicles and bodies scattered on the road, prompting immediate deployment of police and disaster response teams.

The Delhi Police invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) after forensic inputs suggested potential terror involvement. The explosion came hours after authorities recovered 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad, barely 50 km from Delhi, deepening security concerns.
