Apple introduced the MacBook Neo, its budget option in the market but for people in India it is not exactly an affordable product. Yes, for an Apple device and a Mac, it costs as much as the iPhone 17e model but for a Mac it is close to what you might pay for the MacBook Air M-series versions launched before.

Apple tends to phase out the older-gen Macs when the new one is announced but that doesn’t mean you cannot buy them from other platforms. And that’s why people eyeing the MacBook Neo and its colourful options will have the M2 or M3 MacBook Air in their sights and on a good day you can get some appealing offers.

MacBook Neo has launched at Rs 69,900 for the 256GB variant, and Rs 79,900 if you want the 512GB storage model. The MacBook Air M2 had launched for around Rs 99,900 but these days you can pick up the 16GB + 256GB model for around Rs 70,000 in the country.

Apple is using recycled aluminium for the body on the MacBook Neo but manages to keep it light at around 1.23 kg which is as heavy as the MacBook Air M2. The Air model features aluminium casing and the classic MacBook finish all aboard, including the notch on the display. Speaking of which, the Neo has a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with sRGB tone but the Air M2 comes with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina P3 display.

MacBook Neo is powered by A18 Pro chip which was introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro model in 2024 and you get it with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. The memory is not upgradeable and the higher storage costs Rs 10,000 more. The MacBook Air M2 model uses the M2 chipset with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage for the base price. Both the Macs can run the macOS 26 version and support Apple AI features. There is a lot of debate around the RAM on the Neo which will be fine for the basic users, but someone with more needs will have to consider the M2 or M3 Air models.
