Following Rohini's exit, her three sisters also left the parental home, amplifying public curiosity about the political and personal lives of Lalu Yadav's children

Among the two sons, Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav are prominent in Bihar politics.
Tensions have escalated in the family of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the wake of recent Bihar Assembly election results, after his daughter Rohini Acharya announced her decision to step away from both politics and her family. The move, which comes after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has sparked intense speculation about the future of the famed Yadav household.
Following Rohini’s exit, her three sisters, Ragini, Chanda, and Rajlakshmi, also left the parental home, amplifying public curiosity about the political and personal lives of Lalu Yadav’s children. Lalu and his wife Rabri Devi have nine children in total including two sons and seven daughters, several of whom have carved out public and political identities of their own.
Among the two sons, Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav are prominent in Bihar politics. Tej Pratap, the elder, recently broke away from the family and the party after being sidelined, founding his own political outfit, Jan Shakti Janata. Tejashwi, meanwhile, remains a central opposition figure in the state. He married Rajshri in Delhi in 2021, and the couple has two young children, a daughter born in 2023 and a son in 2025.
The eldest daughter, Misa Bharti, serves as a Member of Parliament from Pataliputra. Married to software entrepreneur Shailesh Kumar since 1999, she is a mother to two daughters and a son.
Rohini Acharya, the second daughter, entered the political arena by contesting the Saran Lok Sabha seat in 2024 and attracted widespread attention for donating a kidney to her father. Married to computer engineer Samresh Singh of Aurangabad in 2002, Rohini resides in Singapore with her husband and three children. Though trained in medicine, she has not pursued a professional career.
The other daughters have largely remained away from frontline politics but are notable for their professional and personal accomplishments. Chanda Yadav, married to pilot Vikram Singh since 2006, holds a law degree. Ragini Yadav, who wed Rahul Yadav, the son of Samajwadi Party leader Jitendra Yadav, in 2012, maintains political ties through her husband.
Hema Yadav, an engineering graduate from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, is married to Vineet Yadav, a political figure in Delhi. Dhannu Yadav, also known as Anushka Rao, married Chiranjeev Rao, an MLA from Rewari and former Haryana Youth Congress president; she holds a degree in interior design and is noted for her striking resemblance to Tejashwi Yadav.
The youngest daughter, Rajlakshmi Yadav, married Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, grandson of Ratan Singh Yadav, who was the elder brother of late Samajwadi Party stalwart Mulayam Singh Yadav. Though trained in medicine, Rajlakshmi does not practice professionally.
All of Lalu Yadav’s sons-in-law are well-educated professionals, including doctors, engineers, and lawyers, with some also active in politics. The family’s intricate web of personal, professional, and political connections has drawn considerable public attention, now heightened by the unprecedented exit of Rohini Acharya from the family and the political arena.
