Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose slammed Kalyan Banerjee for alleging arms in Raj Bhavan, called the claims baseless, sought an apology, and affirmed commitment to fair elections.

The governor had asked the TMC MP (L) to apologise to him earlier also.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday strongly criticised TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for his controversial remark alleging the presence of arms in Raj Bhavan, seeking an apology. Describing the allegations as “malicious, baseless, and obnoxious," Bose said he has cancelled all his engagements for the day and affirmed that the Governor’s office is open for scrutiny.
“Allegations made by the TMV MP are malicious, baseless, and obnoxious. I have cancelled all my engagements, and the office of the governor is open for scrutiny. I am committed to ensuring Bengal is violence-free when elections are held," Bose said.
He added that he was seeking legal opinion against the TMC MP for making false claims. He emphasized that Raj Bhavan should remain neutral and out of controversy and called on Banerjee to apologise.
" I am taking legal opinion against the TMC MP for making false allegations against the Raj Bhawan. TMC MP must apologize. I don’t want to do politics… appropriate action will be taken," he stated.
The Governor underlined the importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for free and fair elections, stating that while differences of opinion are welcome, violence must be voted out. He noted that the primary responsibility of the SIR lies with the Election Commission, but Raj Bhavan will “intervene when necessary."
“Differences of opinion are welcome when the SIR exercise is taking place. The prime responsibility of SIR lies with the Election Commission…. Raj Bhawan will intervene when required. The Constitution has checks and balances when parties try to create a hindrance in SIR exercise," he remarked.
The governor’s remarks came a day after he asked the MP to apologise or face action. Banerjee made the controversial statement on Saturday after Bose advocated for the ongoing SIR of the voters’ roll in the state. “If people are confused, we should convince them that SIR is a new process which is required to clean up the election process and to ensure that free and fair elections take place," Bose had said.
Soon after, Banerjee reacted to the Governor’s support for the SIR and accused him of actively aiding criminals. “First, tell the governor not to shelter the BJP’s criminals in Raj Bhavan. He is keeping offenders there, giving them guns and bombs, and telling them to attack Trinamool workers. Let him stop this first," the MP alleged.
“As long as an incompetent governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-servant governor remains, you will never see anything good happening in West Bengal," Banerjee added.
