The turmoil inside Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family deepened on Sunday, a day after Rohini Acharya’s explosive public exit from both politics and the RJD family, after the former’s three more daughters left the family’s Patna residence along with their children and travelled to Delhi.

Signalling a widening rift, three more daughters of the RJD chief — Rajlakshmi, Ragini and Chanda — “distressed and unsettled" by the unfolding crisis, left the 10 Circular Road residence, India Today reported.

Their departure follows Rohini Acharya’s emotional and sensational allegation-filled outburst on social media where she alleged that she was subjected to humiliation, including abusive language, an attempt to assault her with a slipper and her kidney being called “dirty".

She said she refused to compromise on her self-respect or abandon the truth, claiming this was the reason she faced such behaviour.

“Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult…Yesterday, a daughter, out of compulsion, left behind her crying parents and sisters and came away; they tore me away from my maternal home… They left me orphaned…May none of you ever walk my path, may no family ever have a daughter-sister like Rohini," she said in a post on X.

Rohini, who donated a kidney to her father in 2022, said she was subjected to “filthy abuses" during a confrontation involving two of Tejashwi Yadav’s closest aides — RJD Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav and long-time associate Rameez. She accused them of maligning her by claiming she had “taken crores" from the family after the kidney donation, calling it an “insult beyond forgiveness".

A day after the RJD suffered a major loss in the Bihar Assembly election, finishing the election as the third-largest party with just 25 seats, despite contesting on more than 140 seats, Acharya, on Saturday wrote on X, “I am quitting politics and I am disowning my family…This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do…and I am taking all the blame," she wrote in her post.

Sanjay Yadav is the Rajya Sabha MP from RJD and one of the most trusted aides of Tejashwi Yadav, the son and heir apparent of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad. Rameez is said to be Tejashwi’s old friend who hails from a political family in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Tejashwi was the Mahagathbandhan’s CM face.

Tejashwi Yadav, whose leadership and choice of advisers have come under fire since the defeat, has stayed largely out of public view.

Meanwhile, the controversy drew a fierce response from estranged elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, who was ousted from both the party and the family earlier this year. He said that he won’t tolerate the humiliation of his sister.

“Yesterday’s incident shook me to the core. What happened to me, I tolerated it… but the insult my sister faced is absolutely unbearable," he said in a statement from the JJD’s Instagram handle. In a warning to what he described as ‘jaichands’ (traitors), he said the people of Bihar will never forgive those who attack families.

In an appeal to his father and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap wrote, “Father, just give one signal. Just one gesture from you, and the people of Bihar themselves will bury these traitors in the ground. This fight is not of any party – it is a fight for the honour of the family, the dignity of a daughter, and the self-respect of Bihar."

The dramatic family implosion came at a time when the RJD is grappling with its steepest political decline in years. With the Mahagathbandhan barely securing 35 seats in total, the blame game within party ranks has intensified, centring on Tejashwi’s election strategy and the role of his aides.
