The Indian govt has alerted the Teams users.

Microsoft Teams is the latest platform to be alerted for some security issues and the Indian government is doing its bit by keeping the users informed about them. Teams are as important as the other Microsoft tools like Office and the Windows operating system.

So the latest security alert from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In with a high severity ranking that will not only alarm those using the video meeting app but also the ones who have the app installed on their systems or even phones.

Microsoft Teams Security Issue: What The Alert Says

The CERT-In alert for Microsoft Teams comes with a note that explains the issue with the platform, how it affects the users and what can be exploited because of it. “This vulnerability exists in Microsoft Teams due to Improper Access Control. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to disclose sensitive information over a network," the bulletin mentions in details.

Besides this, the agency also says the issues with Microsoft Teams puts users at a high risk of unauthorised access to meetings, chats, and shared files if misconfigured or improperly secured.

The agency also mentions that all versions and platforms supporting Microsoft Teams will be affected by the risks so the best way to prevent their system from getting attacked is to update to the latest available security patch from Microsoft.

The platform has become an easy target for bad actors who push malicious content and files across users, and the company is now blocking or at least alerting the users about possible risks of clicking on a link or downloading a file of that nature.

The company says features like weaponisable file type protection, malicious URL detection and a new mechanism to report false positives which de-ranks the supposed threats.

Having these tools enabled automatically will allow Teams users to see all the dangerous warning labels that may have suspicious URLs and also block possible files that may cause harm to your system. Microsoft claims, “This update helps safeguard users from malicious content and provides options to report incorrect detections."

Microsoft had informed its Microsoft 365 customers about the default changes that are now applicable for everyone using the meeting app.
