In a significant international operation, Indian security agencies have successfully arrested two of the country’s most wanted gangsters, Venkatesh Garg and Bhanu Rana, who had been operating from abroad. Garg was apprehended in Georgia with assistance from the Haryana Police and international law enforcement, while Rana was arrested in the United States.

Both men are set to be deported to India soon. According to officials, over two dozen high-profile Indian gangsters are currently based overseas, running organised crime syndicates and recruiting new members from within the country.

Who is Venkatesh Garg?

Venkatesh Garg, a native of Narayangarh in Haryana, has more than 10 criminal cases registered against him in India. He fled to Georgia after being implicated in the murder of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader in Gurugram.

Authorities revealed that Garg was recruiting young men from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and other northern states into his criminal network. He has been operating an extortion racket in collaboration with Kapil Sangwan, another gangster currently based overseas.

In October, the Delhi Police arrested four associates of Sangwan involved in a shooting at the residence and farmhouse of a builder, an incident believed to be linked to Garg’s wider network.

What do we know about Bhanu Rana?

Meanwhile, Bhanu Rana, a native of Karnal, Haryana, was detained in the United States. He is a close associate of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been linked to multiple violent crimes in northern India.

Rana’s operations reportedly extended across Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi. His name surfaced during investigations into a grenade attack in Punjab earlier this year. In June, the Special Task Force (STF) in Karnal arrested two men carrying hand grenades and pistols who confessed to acting under Rana’s instructions.
