US President Donald Trump on Wednesday highlighted what he described as a major trade breakthrough with India, saying the agreement would significantly boost American coal exports as part of the country’s expanding energy footprint.
Speaking at the “Champion of Coal" event, Trump placed the India deal at the forefront of his remarks, presenting it as evidence of the United States’ growing dominance in global energy markets.
He said recent trade arrangements would help drive up coal exports from the US and reinforce its status as a leading energy supplier.
“America is now the number one energy producer in the world. We’re becoming a massive energy exporter. In just the past few months, we’ve made historic trade deals with Japan, Korea, India, and others to increase our coal exports dramatically. The quality of our coal is supposed to be the finest anywhere in the world," Trump said.
Trump suggested that the deal with New Delhi forms part of a broader push to position US coal as a premium product in international markets.
After referring to India, Trump also cited Japan and South Korea, saying that the United States had concluded “historic trade deals" with these countries in recent months.
According to him, the agreements are designed to sharply increase coal shipments abroad and strengthen America’s export capacity.
Trump further claimed that American coal stands out globally in terms of quality.
“The quality of our coal is supposed to be the finest anywhere in the world," he said, portraying it as a competitive advantage in negotiations with major energy-importing nations.
The President characterised the country’s transformation as rapid and decisive, emphasising that it is no longer solely focused on domestic supply but increasingly on global exports.
