An Indian teacher- who first set foot in Dubai by sea in 1965- has finally received official recognition from the country. Haji N Jamaluddin, now 90, was honoured in a special ceremony by Dubai Airports, marking six decades since his arrival in the UAE.
Haji N Jamaluddin, who left Mumbai for Dubai on February 26, 1965- before the emirate even had a port- never received an immigration stamp at the time. This week, that changed. In a symbolic gesture, Dubai authorities presented him with an official immigration stamp, retroactively dated to his original arrival.
“We felt privileged to finally put a stamp in his passport to celebrate a legacy shaped by service, humility, and hope," Dubai Airports said in a post on X, adding, “Now 90, Haji Jamaluddin still believes ‘education is the best weapon for enlightenment.’"

Who Is Haji N Jamaluddin?
In 1984, Haji N Jamaluddin founded Crescent English High School, one of the most affordable private schools in the UAE. The school now serves more than 1,700 students.
Haji N Jamaluddin said, “Money is not everything. Education is the best weapon for the enlightenment of the people. It gives you a stepping stone in life."
The initiative to officially recognise him began with his son, Riyas Jamaluddin, who wrote to the CEO of Dubai Airports requesting a commemorative stamp to acknowledge his father’s contribution. The request was accepted and the family was invited to Dubai Airport to mark the occasion.
