In the realm of Bihar politics, the typical image of a leader is one clad in a white kurta-pyjama, with a gamchha draped over the shoulder, and wearing slippers. This traditional attire is a common sight among local politicians.
However, political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, often referred to as PK, stands out distinctly in this conventional crowd. Known for his unique fashion sense, PK, founder of Bihar’s Jan Suraaj party, seems to surpass even Bollywood icons like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in style.
Amidst the political hustle and bustle, PK adopts a different approach. When mingling with the public, he adheres to the “Netaji" image, donning the traditional white kurta-pyjama. Yet, in more private settings, interviews, or on camera, his fashion sense takes a sophisticated turn. Instead of the kurta, he is seen in a Hugo Boss T-shirt.
These aren’t just any T-shirts; a single piece can cost up to Rs 10,000, far from the typical Rs 200 to Rs 300 shirts found in local markets. Hugo Boss, a renowned German fashion house, offers T-shirts priced between Rs 3,000 and Rs 11,000.
PK’s choice of attire recently sparked conversation during an interview with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia. His expensive T-shirt became a topic of discussion, overshadowing the interview itself.
Bhatia praised the T-shirt and jokingly asked, “Sir, are those Prada slippers as well?" Prada slippers can cost up to Rs 65,000. PK responded with a smile, deftly sidestepping the question. For many, the idea of Rs 60,000 rupee slippers is beyond comprehension.
PK’s fashion sense is not merely for show. According to sources, his preference for ASICS shoes, which are priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000, is rooted in practicality. Given his extensive travel on foot, covering thousands of kilometres, he requires footwear that is both comfortable and durable, they said.
Political experts suggest that the emergence of PK may signal a shift in fashion trends within Bihar politics. While traditional leaders stick to their pressed kurtas, many are left pondering the cost of PK’s high-end attire in terms of basic necessities.
In a political landscape long associated with “white clothes and a towel," experts say Prashant Kishor is gradually becoming a symbol of new fashion.
