Following the Congress decision to run solo in BMC polls, many are suspecting the strained ties within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Days after the Congress party announced its decision to go solo in the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation election, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s mouthpiece Saamana took a dig at the grand old party and accused the party of trying to “show itself as a national party".

In fact, Saamana, in its article, questioned the Congress, stating that there was no Raj Thackeray factor in the Bihar Assembly election, then why did the party not perform well in those elections and face a massive defeat?

The development came after the Congress party’s Mumbai unit announced that it is preparing to contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation election on its own strength and is set to field candidates on all 227 seats.

Rift In MVA?

The announcement was made a day after the Congress Party suffered a massive defeat in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

Following the Congress decision to run solo in BMC polls, many are suspecting the strained ties within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

The Congress’s stand to go solo has come amid the possibility of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader, Raj Thackeray, joining hands for the upcoming civic polls.

The announcement by the Mumbai Congress was made during the one-day ‘Lakshya 2026’ camp that was organised in Malad on November 15. Elections to the BMC, the richest civic body in the country, are likely to be held in January 2026.
