A wave of coordinated attacks struck at least 16 locations across Pakistan’s Balochistan province early on Saturday, triggering widespread shutdowns of transport, communications and government activity, officials told CNN-News18. Explosions and armed assaults were reported from Quetta, Gwadar, Qallat, Kharan, Mastung, Pasni, Dalbandin, Noshki, Bulaida, Tump, Mach and surrounding areas, prompting authorities to close all roads linking Balochistan with other provinces, suspend train services, shut government offices and cut mobile phone networks. Mosque announcements urged residents to remain indoors as security forces launched counter-operations.
In Quetta, a series of blasts began around 6 am, including one in a high-security zone, while two police vans were attacked in the Saryab area. In Mastung, assailants targeted the jail, leading to the escape of 27 prisoners, officials said. Frontier Corps installations in Dalbandin were hit by twin blasts, the Pakistan Coast Guard came under attack in Pasni, and labour quarters were targeted in Gwadar. In Qallat, attackers struck two police stations—burning records—and vandalised two banks. In Noshki, attacks began around 5 am and the deputy commissioner was kidnapped, according to officials. Security forces also came under fire in Balocha, Tump and Mastung.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the assaults, describing them as part of an operation it dubbed “Head Off 2.0". A video message attributed to BLA commander Bashir Zaib Baloch surfaced online, in which he called on supporters to mobilise. Authorities, however, cautioned against circulating such material. Officials said the attacks followed a counterterrorism operation a day earlier in which four alleged BLA members were killed. Security agencies are investigating reports that women were among the attackers at some locations, even as clearance operations continue and damage assessments are under way.
