Alibaba’s new Qwen 3.5 AI model has been designed with the intention to run tools on-device but its architecture will provide the right level of speed, accuracy and performance. The focus on lightweight models is increasing as they need smaller computing systems and don’t need heavy power and graphics to run efficiently.

The new Alibaba AI lineup includes Qwen 3.5 with 0.8B, 2B, 4B and 9B where B standards for the billions of parameters on which the different versions have been developed.

Qwen 3.5 For On-Device AI

Alibaba has run through various benchmarks and it seems the Qwen 3.5 version has performed quite well in comparison to Gemini Nano and other AI models in this same version from other tech companies.

The company has built the Qwen 3.5 AI model with ability to process both text and visual data in the same platform. This is a big feat for a smaller sized AI model and Alibaba has proven that its own computing push is going to make other AI models run on-device.

The smallest Qwen 3.5 AI models 0.8B and 2B are purely meant to run on daily devices like phones, laptops where you don’t have a lot of computing power but enough to keep the basic operations running smoothly.

Alibaba is also making it clear that unlike the 4B and 9B versions, these two are not that strong with reasoning for complex problems which is expected. All these Qwen 3.5 AI models are available publicly for developers to download, and run them on their own AI networks and build apps and tools that can handle its load.

The emphasis on running AI on-device is going to get stronger, especially with the powerful computing system left alone for the bigger models. This not only keeps the data secure but also reduces the operating cost for companies who would invest less on the cloud network for these applications.

India’s Sarvam AI is also building models that can sustain the hardware blueprint and deliver performance that can be reasoned with the best in the market.
