Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised on the need for AI models, creators to take responsibility for making sure that the new technology is strengthening the trust rather than belittling it.

Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday announced the plan to launch ‘Create in India’ mission, with aim to enhancing industry, creating jobs, and preparing a future-ready talent pipeline.

Speaking during a fireside chat with Charles Rivkin, chairman of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), at an official satellite event of the AI Impact Summit 2026, Vaishnaw said: “Very soon, the govt will launch ‘Create in India’ mission, which will be an industry, employment and future-oriented mission. It will look at strengthening what we have, making sure we become the most preferred platform for the world and create a future-ready talent pipeline which keeps that growth that we need to have for the next 25 years."

“There should not be a diluting effect, but a complementing effect of AI into our lives. Many of the developed countries are looking at it as the benchmark," he added.

On how the government can work with industry to provide guardrails fight deepfakes and disinformation, the Union Minister said, “Deep fakes and disinformation are attacking the foundation of our society and the root of trust between institutions created by society. AI models, creators will have to take responsibility for making sure that the new technology is strengthening the trust rather than belittling it…"

The minister also addressed the ongoing fears of AI replacing human roles. Pointing out the impact of AI on jobs and its adoption in India, he said: “The talent pipeline which is getting created in India is high. Natural growth is happening, and we are promoting this."

“In the next few days of the AI summit, we are looking at the impact of AI on human society. There are positive impacts of AI, including weather forecasting, climate change, agriculture, the discovery of new materials, and productivity gains. There are potential negative impacts. We are looking at how to balance these impacts so we can capture the benefits while containing the harms. We will come out with a good outcome from this summit," he said.

Vaishnaw reiterated the announcement made in the Budget 2026 around content creator labs and said: “In the Budget 2026, we announced the content creator labs in 15000 schools. Throughout the country, we are opening these labs with the help of the industry. We have the world’s best students in 350 universities in the semiconductors sector; similarly, we will have more students in AI."
