A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Thailand's Phuket made an emergency landing on the Thai island shortly after take-off on Friday following a bomb threat, officials said.

All 156 passengers on board flight AI 379 were safely deboarded, and a thorough security screening was carried out. The airport authorities activated the Airport Contingency Plan (ACP). However, a preliminary investigation found no explosives. Thai officials said they were questioning the passenger who had reported the threat.

The Indian Embassy in Bangkok said it is in touch with Thai authorities regarding the incident.

The scare comes a day after an Air India flight crashed in Ahmedabad shortly after take-off, killing all 265 people on board.

Indian airlines have witnessed a surge in bomb threats in 2024, with nearly 1,000 hoax calls and messages reported in the first 10 months, almost 10 times the number recorded in 2023.
