Baloch fighters’ Operation Herof Phase II has pushed the long-running Balochistan conflict back into the spotlight. Who are these rebels, and what are they fighting for?

Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has initiated the second phase of Operation Herof across Balochistan.

Under Herof 2.0, BLA has launched simultaneous, coordinated attacks in 10 cities in the province, including Quetta, Nushki, Mastung, Dalbandin, Kalat, Kharan, Gwadar, Pasni, Tump and Buleda.

As per the reports, Herof is a Balochi term that means "black storm", it is mostly used in literary references. The BLA first used this term in August 2024.

BLA claimed that under Herof 2.0, a total of 84 occupying Pakistani army personnel, police, intelligence agencies, and CTD personnel were neutralized dozens were wounded and 18 personnel were captured alive and are currently in BLA custody.

BLA first launched Operation Herof In August 2024 with attacks across 12 districts of Balochistan.
