The two Israeli Embassy staffers, who were shot dead outside a Jewish museum in Washington DC on Wednesday night, were about to get engaged next week, Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, said.
In what officials said was an “act of antisemitism", two members of the Israeli Embassy were gunned down outside the museum by a Chicago man, identified as Elias Rodriguez. As the man was being arrested, he yelled, “Free, free Palestine."
“The young man purchased a ring this week with the intention of proposing to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem. They were a beautiful couple," Leiter said in a news conference.
