The roof of a historic Ming Dynasty tower collapsed in China. The incident reportedly took place a few days back, and a dramatic video of the incident is also making the rounds on social media platforms.
The CCTV video captures the roof of the 650-year-old Fengyang Drum Tower in China’s Chuzhou collapsing within seconds. A massive cloud of dust erupts into the air, and the crowd can be heard screaming and running in all directions out of panic. Chaos unfolds as debris falls and the roof crumbles.
Reportedly, the incident took place on Monday at nearly 06:30 p.m. No casualties were reported in the incident. Locals were quick to evacuate the area.
A report by the Global Times citing the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Fengyang County said that the locals immediately evacuated bystanders from the scene and cordoned off the area with safety barriers.
“The rooftop collapsed at around 6:30 PM. No injuries have been reported. Following the incident, local officials immediately evacuated bystanders from the scene and cordoned off the area with safety barriers," the Global Times quoted the statement.
Global Times reported that a team has been set up to probe the incident.
The 650-year-old Fengyang Drum Tower was originally built in 1375. However, the original part of the building was later destroyed in 1853. The current structure was rebuilt in 1995.
