Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Friday announced a new statewide campaign aimed at ensuring that women in Bihar receive the Rs 2 lakh that the NDA had promised ahead of the recent assembly elections.

Speaking after a day-long silent fast at the Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran, Kishor said his party would personally reach out to every household in the state to help women access the promised amount.

Kishor said that many women were “lured" with the first instalment of Rs 10,000 transferred before the elections, and added that Jan Suraaj now saw it as its responsibility to assist those who had been drawn in by this promise.

“After January 15, we will go to each and every household and make them fill the form so that they get Rs 2 Lakh," the Jan Suraaj Party chief noted.

He also said that the party would launch the Bihar Navnirman Sankalp Abhiyan, through which Jan Suraaj workers would visit every home and help beneficiaries fill out forms so they could claim the remaining amount.

The political strategist-turned-politician stressed that the campaign would not be hindered by a lack of funds. Kishor announced that he would donate at least 90 per cent of his earnings over the next five years to support the initiative.

“Barring one house in Delhi for my family, I am donating all my assets earned in the last 20 years to this initiative," he said, further urging people in Bihar to contribute at least Rs 1,000 a year to the party.

Alongside this announcement, Kishor sharply criticised the newly formed cabinet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He alleged that the council of ministers sworn in on Thursday contained several leaders with criminal or corrupt backgrounds.

“I must say that this council of ministers is a slap in the face of the people of Bihar. It’s like rubbing salt on the wound as several corrupt leaders were inducted," he remarked.
