Tensions rose in Thane as a Shiv Sena branch chief Haresh Mahadik was allegedly assaulted by ex-BJP corporator Narayan Pawar.

Following the alleged incident, several Shiv Sena members went to Naupada Police Station to register a complaint.
Tensions between Shiv Sena and BJP have flared again in Thane, as a Shiv Sena branch chief was allegedly assaulted by former BJP corporator Narayan Pawar. The incident reportedly occurred while the branch chiefs were celebrating the decision to reduce registration fees for houses under the BSUP scheme.
Following the alleged incident, branch chief Haresh Mahadik and activist Mahesh Lahne were rushed to Naupada Police Station. It is learnt that the process of filing a formal complaint has begun. The incident highlights the ongoing friction between the two parties in the region ahead of Mumbai civic polls.
Earlier on Wednesday, the BJP and the Shiv Sena clashed in Ulhasnagar over who deserves credit for houses being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), further intensifying the rivalry between the two parties in the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency.
The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation recently announced an initiative to provide affordable housing for economically weaker sections and issued a tender for the construction of 3,578 homes at an estimated cost of Rs 723 crore. BJP MLA Kumar Ailani claimed he had actively followed up on the scheme with the government, suggesting the project had moved forward due to his efforts.
Soon after Ailani’s remarks, Shiv Sena functionaries held a separate press conference accusing the BJP MLA of trying to take “undue credit." Sena’s Kalyan city chief Rajendra Chaudhary countered that it was Sena corporators who had originally raised the demand for the project with MP Shrikant Shinde, who then pursued it with the state government.
