Elon Musk reportedly fired Omaed Afshar from Tesla.
In a stunning shake-up at Tesla, CEO Elon Musk reportedly fired Omaed Afshar, the company’s head of operations for North America and Europe, just days before the close of the second quarter. The decision comes amid mounting pressure on Tesla as it grapples with slumping electric vehicle (EV) sales, marking the fifth consecutive month of decline across major markets including the US, Europe and China.
Who Is Omaed Afshar- The Man Once dubbed ‘The Musk Whisperer’?
Born in the United States to Iranian parents, Omaed Afshar’s rise to the upper echelons of the Elon Musk empire was unconventiona. He studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, graduating in 2009 and began his career far from Silicon Valley as a ski instructor at Mammoth Mountain. Omaed Afshar soon pivoted to the medical field, joining St. Jude Medical in 2011 as a product engineer. Over six years, he climbed the ranks, managing operations and strategic systems.
Omaed Afshar’s Work At Tesla
Omaed Afshar joined Tesla in 2017 as a project manager in the Office of the CEO, embedding himself directly into Elon Musk’s orbit. His ability to anticipate and execute Elon Musk’s ambitious visions quickly earned him the billionaire’s trust. Following this, Omaed Afshar was appointed to lead the construction of Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas.
In 2022, Omaed Afshar was named Vice President at SpaceX, expanding his influence beyond Tesla. He also played a behind-the-scenes but vital role in Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, helping restructure and rebrand the platform as X. Omaed Afshar was also credited with executing major cost-cutting measures at the social media company during a turbulent transition period.
Why Omaed Afshar Left Tesla?
Omaed Afshar’s sudden ouster has raised questions about internal dynamics at Tesla and Elon Musk’s shifting inner circle. Some analysts speculate the move is part of a broader corporate reshuffle as Tesla struggles to reinvigorate sales and respond to increasing competition in the EV sector while others said that it may be a sign of Elon Musk tightening control over day-to-day operations as shareholder pressure mounts.
