Amid the ongoing escalating tensions in West Asia, President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that “we won" the Iran war, but that the United States will stay in the fight to finish the job.

“You never like to say too early you won. We won," Trump told a campaign-style rally in Hebron, Kentucky. “In the first hour, it was over."

“We don’t want to leave early, do we?" Trump said. “We got to finish the job."

Trump stated that the United States had knocked out 58 Iranian naval ships and credited the US military for significantly degrading Iran’s military, but resisting a speedy end to the conflict.

He said the United States has “virtually destroyed Iran" and said that seemed to signal that the United States would continue the fight for now. “We don’t want to go back every two years," Trump added.

First Week Of War On Iran Cost US Over $11.3 Bn

The Trump administration officials told US senators that the first six days of the war with Iran cost the United States at least $11.3 billion, news agency Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

The estimate, presented to Senators during a closed-door meeting earlier this week on Tuesday, does not represent the full cost of the conflict but was shared as lawmakers pressed the administration for more details about the war’s scope, expenses and long-term strategy.

While the full cost estimate or a timeline for the conflict has not been revealed by the Trump administration, the US President on Wednesday said that the United States had already achieved success in the fighting but would remain engaged to finish the job.
