Social media platforms were abuzz this week with alarming and misleading claims that former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had died in judicial custody or had been attacked at home. A video showing Khan bloodied and being carried away by guards went viral across WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter), sparking confusion and concern. However, these claims are entirely false.

Adding to the misinformation, a fake press release also began circulating, claiming that Khan had died in judicial custody — another claim that has been thoroughly debunked. As of now, there is no official confirmation of any such incident.

The viral video is not recent—it dates back to May 2013, when Imran Khan was injured after falling from a forklift while being lifted onto a stage at an election rally in Lahore. As reported by The Times of India at the time, Khan fell from a height of approximately 15 feet and suffered head injuries.

Despite the video being over a decade old, it resurfaced this week and was widely circulated on social media, misleading many into believing the incident had just occurred. Some posts went a step further, falsely accusing Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, of orchestrating Khan’s alleged death.

Where Is Imran Khan Now?

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is currently lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, serving time after being convicted in multiple cases, including corruption and unlawful marriage. His imprisonment has remained a high-profile matter within Pakistan’s turbulent political landscape. As regional tensions with India have escalated in recent weeks, concerns over Khan’s safety inside prison have grown louder.

Close aides from his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claim that Khan is being kept in near-isolation and denied regular access to legal counsel and medical care. The PTI has alleged that his life is in danger and that his imprisonment is politically motivated, especially as war-like tensions mount between India and Pakistan.
