Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday thanked US President Donald Trump for facilitating the ceasefire with India.
In a post on social media site X, Sharif wrote: “We thank President Trump for his leadership and proactive role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the United States for facilitating this outcome, which we have accepted in the interest of regional peace and stability."
“We also thank Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their valuable contributions for peace in South Asia. Pakistan believes this marks a new beginning in the resolution of issues that have plagued the region and prevented its journey toward peace, prosperity and stability," he added.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced India and Pakistan have announced a “full and immediate ceasefire" and that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea with effect from 5pm (IST), on Saturday.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the same ceasefire information without sharing any details of the negotiations or the ceasefire.
US Secretary of State Rubio also said in a State Department statement that he and Vice-President J D Vance conducted the ceasefire negotiations.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire," President Trump wrote on Truth Social, the social media platform he owns.
