Several patients killed after fire at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh hospital
Six critical patients were killed in a fire at the trauma center of the state-run Sawai Mansingh hospital in Jaipur late Sunday night. A short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire which engulfed the neuro ICU, destroying equipment and causing thick smoke. This report covers glaring lapses, with relatives of the deceased stating they received no help from hospital staff who allegedly fled the scene. One relative said, "We did not get any help." For hours, families were reportedly not informed about the condition of their loved ones. The report also highlights allegations of non-functional safety equipment, such as an empty fire extinguisher, and shows scenes from Monday morning where staff were cleaning the site, which the reporter suggests could be an attempt to "whitewash the entire scenario."
