Trump called Rogers a “third-rate reporter” and accused her of being “assigned to write only bad things” about him.

US President Donald Trump lambasted a New York Times reporter, calling her “ugly inside and out" after the newspaper published a story suggesting he may be showing signs of ageing.
The 79-year-old president directed his comments at Katie Rogers, one of the journalists who co-wrote the report. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called Rogers a “third-rate reporter" and accused her of being “assigned to write only bad things" about him.
“The writer of the story, Katie Rogers, who is assigned to write only bad things about me, is a third rate reporter who is ugly, both inside and out," Trump wrote. He added that while everyone eventually loses energy, his own physical and cognitive health remain strong.
“There will be a day when I run low on Energy, it happens to everyone," the US President wrote, adding, “but with a PERFECT PHYSICAL EXAM AND A COMPREHENSIVE COGNITIVE TEST (‘That was aced’) JUST RECENTLY TAKEN, it certainly is not now!"
Trump’s post comes less than two weeks after he called another female reporter “quiet, piggy", drawing criticism for his use of gendered insults.
The Times’ article analysed the president’s public schedule and compared it to his first year in office. It found he has fewer domestic events and travels less within the US, although he has taken more foreign trips.
The report also noted that Trump’s public appearances sometimes show signs of fatigue, though he remains highly visible and engages with the press more often than President Joe Biden.
Trump did not mention Dylan Freedman, the male co-author of the story, who works on the newspaper’s AI team. Instead, he focused his attacks on Rogers, and also criticised the newspaper itself, calling it the “soon to fold New York Times". He is currently suing the publication for defamation, a case legal experts say is unlikely to succeed.
A spokesperson for The Times defended Rogers and the outlet, saying, “The Times’ reporting is accurate and built on first hand reporting of the facts. Name-calling and personal insults don’t change that, nor will our journalists hesitate to cover this administration in the face of intimidation tactics like this. Expert and thorough reporters like Katie Rogers exemplify how an independent and free press helps the American people better understand their government and its leaders."
