US-Israel-Iran War Updates Today: The war in West Asia intensified on Wednesday as fresh strikes, drone attacks and threats of economic warfare spread across the region, while global oil prices surged and maritime routes faced disruptions.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has attacked two ships, the Liberian-flagged Express Rome and the Thai-flagged Mayuree Naree, in the Strait of Hormuz amid global energy concerns.

The Energy Agency has agreed to release the largest volume of emergency oil reserves in its history, in a bid to counter the effects on energy markets of the war. Oil prices remained well below those on Monday, although the price of Brent crude went up 20%.

Nearly every U.S. Senate Democrat signed a letter sent to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday requesting a “swift investigation” of airstrikes on a girls’ school in Iran that killed scores of children and any other potential U.S. military actions causing civilian harm.

Reuters reported on March 5 that U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible for the strike on the school on February 28, as U.S. and Israeli forces launched attacks on Iran.

“The results of this school attack are horrific. The majority of those killed in the strikes were girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. Neither the United States nor the Israeli Government has yet taken responsibility for this attack,” the letter, signed by 46 senators, said.

US-Israel-Iran War LIVE: Iran Targets Fuel Facilities, Sending Oil Soaring Again

Iran launched a new wave of attacks against Gulf energy targets on Thursday, hours after two oil tankers were hit, sending crude prices soaring again despite record reserve releases.

The renewed drone and missile attacks against Iran’s Gulf neighbours and Israel followed a warning from Tehran that it could wage a prolonged war that would “destroy” the world economy.

US President Donald Trump meanwhile insisted Iran was facing imminent defeat, though he cautioned that did not mean the war would end “immediately.”

US-Israel-Iran War LIVE: New Zealand Mulls Car Restrictions If Fuel Supply Stalls

New Zealand officials said Thursday they were considering using decades-old laws restricting vehicle use if fuel supplies dwindled due to the war in the Middle East.

Finance minister Nicola Willis told reporters on Thursday that officials had discussed using legislation introduced to restrict fuel use in the wake of the Iranian revolution in 1979 in response to the crisis.

Under those laws, car owners had to nominate one day per week when they would not use their vehicle and faced hefty fines if caught driving.

US-Israel-Iran War LIVE: US B-1 Bombers Being Loaded With Munitions That Can Take Out Targets Deep Underground

• Videos taken Wednesday at an airbase in Britain show US Air Force B-1 bombers being loaded with “bunker buster” bombs, a sign the Pentagon may be ready to send the heavy bombers over Iran to strike deeply embedded targets like missile and drone storage facilities.
• The videos also show a missile launcher being removed from the weapons bay of at least one B-1 at the RAF Fairford base.
• The B-1 can carry air-launched cruise missiles, which can be fired from hundreds of miles away from their targets, well out of anti-aircraft missile range.
• But the cruise missiles are not ideal for reinforced underground targets where Iran may be storing ballistic missiles and drones.
• The Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) seen being loaded onto the B-1 bombers in the UK require the bombers to be around 25 miles from to their targets. Getting them that close, presumably far into Iranian airspace, is a sign that the Pentagon is confident it has mostly eliminated Iran’s antiaircraft ability.

• The US and Israel’s war with Iran is costing the Middle East’s travel and tourism sector at least $600 million per day in lost international visitor spending, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.
• Disrupted air travel, shaken traveler confidence and reduced regional connectivity are driving down demand across the region, which handles 5% of global arrivals and 14% of international transit traffic, the group added in a statement on Wednesday.
• Major hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Bahrain – which normally process around 526,000 passengers daily – have faced nearly two weeks of closures and operational chaos, severely impacting global travel and sending the cost of many airfares soaring.
• WTTC’s analysis is based on its 2026 pre-conflict forecast for the Middle East, which projected $207 billion in international visitor spending across the region this year.
• “Any disruption to travel flows therefore quickly translates into substantial economic impact across the tourism ecosystem,” it added.
• However, WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara said travel and tourism “is the most resilient of sectors” with a history of rapid recovery. Clear communication, strong public-private coordination and measures to reinforce safety and stability are key to rebuilding travelers’ trust, she added.
