Police bodycam footage now circulating widely online shows officers confronting murder suspect Luigi Mangione at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.

Police body-camera footage capturing the moment officers confronted UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder suspect, Luigi Mangione, inside a Pennsylvania McDonald’s is now circulating widely across social media.
The video, first shown in court this week, documents the 20 tense minutes between officers approaching Mangione at the Altoona fast-food restaurant and informing him that he had the right to remain silent.
In the footage, Mangione can be seen identifying himself as “Mark Rosario" and handing officers a New Jersey driver’s license that investigators say was fake.
The video begins with officers responding to what they initially believed was a dubious tip that the suspect in Thompson’s killing might be at the McDonald’s.
It then shows officers making small talk, including about food, while holiday music plays in the background, all in an apparent effort to keep the conversation “normal and calm".
Despite that tone, the bodycam video also shows officers patting Mangione down and moving his backpack away from him, actions they described as necessary for safety.
In the clip, more officers gradually filter into the restaurant, the atmosphere tightening even as the conversation remains outwardly polite.
After several minutes, Detwiler tells Mangione that police believe he gave a false name and warns that he could be arrested if he repeats it.
Mangione then acknowledges his real identity, stating on camera, “I clearly shouldn’t have," and adding that the false ID was simply what he had in his wallet.
Shortly after, an officer reads him his rights, while also saying he is “not in custody at this point", before Mangione is handcuffed.
The video also shows officers searching his backpack.

Mangione, 27, has pleaded not guilty to state and federal murder charges. His legal team is seeking to suppress both his statements and the evidence allegedly found in his bag, items prosecutors say include a 9 mm handgun and a notebook referencing a plan to “wack" a health insurance executive.
