US President Donald Trump said Venezuela will purchase only American-made products using profits from a new oil deal, a move he framed as a win for both the United States and its industries.
“I have just been informed that Venezuela is going to be purchasing ONLY American Made Products, with the money they receive from our new Oil Deal,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, describing the arrangement as a “wise choice” for both nations.
Trump said the purchases will include American Agricultural Products, and American Made Medicines, Medical Devices, and Equipment to improve Venezuela’s Electric Grid and Energy Facilities.
The announcement comes as the United States asserts control over Venezuela’s oil revenues after the removal of Nicolas Maduro from power. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced that Venezuela will send between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, to be sold at market price with the proceeds managed under US control, a measure the administration says will benefit both Venezuelans and Americans. The president has said the US will control the distribution of Venezuelan oil worldwide and pay some of the revenues back to Venezuela.
Trump portrayed the pact as a strategic economic partnership. “In other words, Venezuela is committing to doing business with the United States of America as their principal partner – A wise choice, and a very good thing for the people of Venezuela, and the United States,” he said.
The Trump administration on Wednesday seized two sanctioned oil tankers carrying petroleum and said it would selectively ease some sanctions to allow the United States to oversee the global sale of Venezuela’s crude. The tankers were intercepted in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean, underscoring the administration’s push to strictly enforce the oil embargo after the removal of Nicols Maduro.
Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves. The US Energy Department said any oil moving in or out of the country will now flow through channels aligned with US law and national security interests, tightening Washington’s control over Venezuela’s energy exports.
