US President Donald Trump on Monday hinted that the ongoing war with Iran could be nearing its end as he said that the US-Israeli military campaign against Tehran is "very complete, pretty much."

However, hours later, at a Republican event, he appeared to contradict his own words when he said that the US has not "won enough" yet.

"We've already won in many ways, but we haven't won enough," Trump said while addressing the Republican Members Issues Conference. He also said that the war would continue until Iran is "totally and decisively defeated."

This seemed to be a deviation from his statement made to a media outlet earlier in the day. CBS News White House reporter Weijia Jiang posted on X that Trump told her over the phone Monday that the war is "very far ahead of schedule."

"I think the war is very complete, pretty much," Jiang quoted Trump as telling her. "They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no Air Force."

Trump had earlier said the war could last about 4-5 weeks. It was launched on February 28.
