From the mountainous terrain of Bajaur to the southern districts of Kech, militants have executed ambushes, bombings, targeted killings and abductions in 48 hours.

Pakistan’s fragile security landscape has deteriorated sharply over the past 48 hours, with a string of coordinated and high-impact attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan underscoring the growing reach of militant groups. The escalation comes amid reports that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced a renewed “spring offensive," signalling an intensified campaign against security forces and state-linked targets.

From the mountainous terrain of Bajaur in the north to the southern districts of Kech, militants have executed ambushes, bombings, targeted killings and abductions, leaving at least 13 security personnel dead, several others injured, and three abducted within two days. The frequency and spread of these incidents have raised serious concerns about the state’s capacity to secure volatile districts that have historically served as militant strongholds.

One of the most alarming incidents occurred in the Faqeer Kas area of Bannu, where worshippers had gathered for Taraweeh prayers at the Sokari Hassan Khel Mosque. A group of 10 to 15 armed men stormed the premises, spreading panic before abducting three brothers — Saeed, a computer operator at the Commissioner’s Office, and police constables Amjad and Hazratullah. The trio remains missing, and security agencies have launched a high-alert search operation across the rugged terrain surrounding Bannu.

Elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, militants ambushed a routine police patrol in Bajaur, killing four policemen and seriously injuring two others. The attack follows the killing of 11 personnel in the same district just nine days earlier, reflecting a pattern of sustained targeting of law enforcement. In Dera Ismail Khan, a roadside improvised explosive device struck a police vehicle, killing two officers and wounding four. In Karak, a prolonged exchange of fire at a police post left three officers dead and five injured. Meanwhile, in Kohat district, seven people — including DSP Asad Mahmood, four officers, and two civilians caught in crossfire — were killed in a militant assault.

In Balochistan’s Turbat city in Kech district, unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade at the residence of Arif Saleem, a contractor and member of the Baloch Party, injuring him and two others.

Reports also indicate increased militant snap-checking on remote roads in Lakki Marwat, with unconfirmed accounts of labourers being briefly detained and questioned.
