Strait Of Hormuz Under Fire: 18 Ships Hit As War Escalates | Full List

At least 18 vessel attacks in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz have been reported since Feb 28. The latest, Thailand-flagged Mayuree Naree, was hit near Oman.

As the US-Israel war rages on, more ships and tankers around the Gulf nations and the Strait of Hormuz have come under attack, with the latest in the list being a Thailand-flagged cargo ship bound for India.

On Wednesday, Thailand-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was subjected to an attack by a projectile in the Strait, 11 nautical miles north of Oman.

The attack marked the 13th ship that was targeted in a suspected Iranian attack, as Tehran continues to retaliate against the coordinated US-Israeli strikes.

18 Vessels Hit As Conflict Escalates

Since February 28 — the day the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran — at least 18 vessels have been targeted, according to geo-intelligence researcher Damien Symon.

Take a look: 

March 1 – A Marshall Islands–flagged crude tanker MKD VYOM was hit by a projectile as the vessel sailed off the Omani coast, killing a crew member.

March 2 – Gibraltar-flagged oil bunkering tanker Hercules Star was struck by a projectile 17 nautical miles northwest of UAE’s Mina Saqr in Ras Al Khaimah.

March 1 – A Palau-flagged tanker was hit in the Strait of Hormuz, two nautical miles north of Oman’s Kumzar.

March 2 – US-flagged products tanker Stena Imperative came under attack by two projectiles in the port of Bahrain, causing a fire.

March 3 – Marshall Islands crude oil tanker Libra Trader and ​Panama-flagged bulker Gold Oak sustained minor damage about 7-10 nautical miles off the UAE’s port.

March 4 – Maltese-flagged container ship Safeen Prestige was attacked ​by a projectile as it sailed towards the top of the strait.

March 5 – Crude oil tanker Sonangol Namibe was subjected to an explosion while anchored near Iraq’s Khor al Zubair port.

March 5 – A Bahamas-flagged ship was targeted and damaged.

March 6 – A tugboat was attacked by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, six nautical miles north of Oman.

March 7 – UKMTO reported a possible drone attack 10 nautical miles north of Saudi Arabia’s Jubail.

March 11 – A Thai-flagged bulk carrier was reportedly struck by “two projectiles of unknown origin" while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

March 11 – Japan-flagged container ship One Majesty was damaged after it was hit by a projectile.

March 11 – The hull of Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Star Gwyneth, sustained damage after being hit by a projectile 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai.

March 12 – Two fuel tankers, including the Marshall Islands-flagged Safesea Vishnu and the Zefyros, were set ablaze by explosive-laden boats in Iraqi waters.

March 12 – A product tanker reported an underwater drone attack in the Northern Gulf near Basra, resulting in a fire and crew evacuation.

US, Iran Refuse To Back Down

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that any ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be targeted. The statement came as US President Donald Trump threatened to ramp up assault on Tehran if ​it continues to obstruct the Strait.

Trump warned Washington would strike Iran harder if it blocked oil exports. He stressed oil companies should use the Strait because “just about all of (Iran’s) navy is gone."

The US-Israel war on Iran has disrupted global trade through the Strait of Hormuz which provides for the passage of roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG).
