In what appears to be his regular statement, US President Donald Trump again claimed that he had “stopped eight wars". However, this time, he added that he still had “one to go" with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump’s remarks came as he sat alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed key regional and economic issues.
“And we’ve done a lot of good with this office," Trump said, adding, “I’ve stopped actually eight wars, I have another one to go with Putin. I’m a little surprised at Putin. It’s taken longer than I thought."
Trump did not detail about the alleged conflicts he prevented but pointed to India and Pakistan as one of the flashpoints he believes he helped cool. “We stopped India and Pakistan. I could go through the list. You know the list better than I do," he said.
He further added that he was very proud of how many leaders had come to the Oval Office to sign what he described as peace deals.
According to Trump, many of these leaders have come in and signed their peace deals right in the Oval Office. He also credited direct talks and late-night phone calls for resolving disputes abroad. “It all took place right here in the Oval Office," he said.
Meanwhile, India had rejected Trump’s claim that he mediated a cease-fire between India and Pakistan, with the Ministry of External Affairs stating that the ceasefire followed without any third-party intervention.
However, Pakistan has quietly embraced President Trump’s claim that he helped avert conflict with India, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanking him for his help.
