Pakistan said Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings with US and Iranian negotiators in Doha and made "positive progress" on issues linked to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. It said the two sides had agreed to continue discussions, though no date for the next round was announced.

The meetings come after the US and Iran signed the MoU on June 18, aimed at restoring peace in West Asia. That was followed by technical-level talks in Switzerland on June 21, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators between the two sides.

In a statement, Pakistan's Foreign Office said, "Qatari and Pakistani mediators concluded separate meetings with the US and Iranian negotiators in Doha today, with positive progress made on issues related to the aspects of the Islamabad MOU, building on the Lake Lucerne Summit." Qatar's foreign ministry spokesperson posted the same statement hours earlier.

Pakistan's Foreign Office also said, "Parties have agreed to continue discussions over the coming period, with the next meeting to be set at the earliest possible time following the funeral processions of the former Iranian Supreme Leader." It said the talks would continue after the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei, who ruled Iran for the last three decades, was killed on February 28, the first day of massive US and Israeli air strikes on Tehran. The burial ceremonies are scheduled to be held in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6 and 7, while the final burial ceremony will take place in Mashhad on July 9. Pakistan and Qatar are mediating between the two adversaries amid posturing, tough talk and attacks on each other.

Overall, Pakistan said the latest Doha meetings with US and Iranian negotiators showed progress on the MoU, with further talks to be held after Khamenei's funeral processions.
